Wotofo Profile 24mm Mesh RDA Review
or
“From screen doors to glowing coils, one man’s journey through the many uses of mesh”
I, like most people, like to think that I am immune to the constant over hyping of products and the deluge of fake accolades heaped upon a cheap trinket by “Influencers” in the pocket of the major manufacturers. I like to think that, but I must admit, from time to time, it is not always true. Such is the case with the Profile RDA by Wotofo. The recent positive reviews by my favorite YouTube personalities, along with the affordable price of the RDA had me adding it to my next order. I have yet to try a Mesh RDA, and unlike most people it seems, I am not a fan of the mesh coils that have become available for my favorite sub ohm tanks, so I decided to give this a shot and see what all the hype was about.
The RDA arrives with the following package contents:
1 x Profile RDA
1 x User Manual
1 x 6mm Cotton Strip
1 x Extra 810 Drip Tip
1 x MESH Bending Tool
1 x Clapton Coil x 1 pc
1 x bag Mesh Style Coil x 2 pcs
1 x bag Extra O-rings & Screws
My black Profile RDA came with a black and white swirly 810 drip tip and a smoked, clear 810 drip tip. I have found that I prefer to use a 510 drip tip with the Profile RDA but neither a 510 drip tip or a drip tip adapter are included with the package.
Building
Building on the RDA was super easy. I installed one of the included Mesh strips which fits nicely in the clamp system on the build deck. The “Bending Tool” is helpful to make sure that the mesh sits flush in the clamps and the single piece of 6mm Agleted Organic Cotton slipped nicely into the coil thanks to the spring loaded ceramic core. The hardest part about building on it was finding a pair of scissors tough enough to trim off the excess cotton (I suggest investing in a pair of gardening sheers or a saws-all).
Vape Experience
My first “toot” from the Profile RDA was one of the worst experiences I have had in vaping. I felt confident that I had dumped enough juice on to the 70’s pubic mound of cotton and allowed it to soak through but my throat and lungs soon discovered that I was wrong. It seems that I did not allow for enough juice to soak all the way through and I was soon choking on the fumes of burnt cotton. And this repeated time and time again. This is not a fault of the RDA but a hard-learned lesson that the ritual of vaping on mesh is different than that of standard coils. Over time I became accustomed to making sure my wick was always wet (insert immature giggle here) for fear of the sensation of razor blades sliding down my throat should I take a dry hit off of the dense mass of cotton. Soon it became second nature and I have not had a problem since.
What surprised me the most was the realization that I love this RDA. I have at least 5 setups within reach as I work throughout the day, but I was astonished when I found that the Profile RDA was the only one I had used for an entire day. The reason for this is the flavor and the vapor.
The flavor I get off of this RDA is amazing. I cannot put it down. I have tried a few different juices, one of them my all-time favorite, and the flavor is phenomenal. The flavor is so good I find myself unconsciously taking vape after vape. So much so that I may have to consider stepping down the Nic level in my juice.
The vapor production is another surprise. I switched to vaping to help with my asthma and some would say I have “baby bitch” lungs. Therefore, I prefer single coil, flavor builds over cloud production. But the Profile RDA produces rich, thick clouds without the need to cough up one of my organs. The experience of watching the never-ending ocean of white vapor billow forth as I exhale, while my tongue soaks in the dense flavor of my e-juice is immensely satisfying, and I can not stop. (No seriously, I can’t stop, please help!)
Conclusion
I regularly purchase RDAs and RTAs that I put a couple of builds in and once the novelty wears off, I throw them into my bins to collect dust with the rest of the over hyped let downs that my wallet has fallen victim to. Not the Profile RDA. This has found itself in my steady rotation and I expect that it will remain there for some time. If you are a hobbyist vapor, this RDA is a must have. If this is your first Mesh RDA then be ready to suffer a dry hit or two and don’t expect the vape experience to be like that of regular RDAs. If you take the time to grow accustom to how often you must re-saturate your wicks, it will be a rewarding, cloudy and flavorful addition to your arsenal. I would recommend picking up a bag of extra 6mm Agleted Cotton strips from Wotofo as well as more mesh coils. And don’t forget the garden sheers or saws-all as they are not included in the package either.
