SMOK Trinity Alpha Review

SMOK is back at it again, they’ve recently released a competitor to the Lost Vape Orion pod devices. The SMOK Trinity Alpha is the latest in a long line of SMOK’s responses to the most popular products on the market. But how does it measure up to the best pod device on the out there? I’m all for bringing down costs to consumers, but does that come with a sacrifice to performance? Let's take an in-depth look at this latest pod device from SMOK and find out.

The Looks

The Trinity Alpha gets 5 stars and two thumbs up from me in the design department. Each variant in the Trinity Alpha lineup comes with beautiful and stylish resin panels which are matched to colored metal frames. I have to give the Trinity Alpha the edge in looks over the Lost Vape Orion, since with the orion you’re stuck with a black, silver, or gold chassis.    

The zinc-alloy construction of this device sets it above most pod devices on the market. While it is a millimeter or two wider than the Lost Vape Orion it’s still a very compact device. The smooth and polished chassis fits comfortably in your hand, so much so that you might forget you’re holding it!

How it works

Okay, I have to admit that I kind of expected to find this device lacking in the performance department. I mean, how could SMOK match Lost Vape on performance, beat them on looks, and come in at a lower price point?!

Well however they did it they pulled it off. I’ve tried both devices and have been vaping with the Trinity for the past couple of weeks and I have to say, head to head, it’s a close competition. This device can surprisingly pump out the same volume of clouds as the Lost Vape Orion, keeping up with it in terms of cloud chucking. The only difference I noticed was that the Lost Vape Orion does have better flavor production, but for your average user that difference will go unnoticed.

Just like the Orion there’s 3 preset wattage modes for you to choose from that range from 5W all the way up to 30W. They’re labeled as S (Soft), N (Normal), and H (Hard) and feature a convenient LED next to each mode so you always know exactly which fire mode you’re using. I got the best performance out of the 0.8Ω running on Hard mode, I got faster firing and bigger clouds using this setup so I highly recommend trying those settings out to find where your sweet spot is.

The Verdict

Despite the fact that I went into this review expecting to be disappointed I find myself strangely recommending this device. The SMOK Trinity Alpha keeps up with the Orion in almost every aspect, and it does it all for a lower price point! Not to mention if you have the Nord you already have extra coils that will work with this device.

Plus with press to fit coils you can easily swap coils out wherever you are, no more needing to unscrew the cartridge and have Ejuice spill everywhere. If you’re looking for a pod device that blows almost everything out of the water, but you don’t want to break the bank, try the SMOK Trinity Alpha.
